Paladins of Glass is set in the world of Feoras, a world in a never ending cycle of decay and rebirth. This game is set at the end of a period of decay. The Carrion Covenant, being carrion feeders, are trying to lock the world into never ending decay. You and your allies need to gain the power of at least three of the spirits that watch over this land and defeat the Covenant before they can complete their ritual.
Energy as a resource - Players spend as much energy as they wish on a turn taking actions like encountering enemies, exploring the land, going to market or attempting the tests of the spirits. BUT! They only recover a limited amount at the start of their next turn. And if a player takes damage when they have no more energy left, they permanently lose shards.
When attempting to overcome an enemy, explore, or do other tasks, you may be asked to do a check. Players roll dice equal to the attribute for the check, looking to get a target number of successes (4, 5, or 6). Players can spend energy to reroll a die until they succeed, leaving players to decide whether to push to exhaustion or play it cautious.
Player choice is at the heart of the game, allowing players to experiment, explore, and find their own path through the world. While there are optional preset characters, players are encouraged to build their own characters. Exploration cards always present an option to how players approach the given obstacle, and even enemies allow players to fight, persuade, or intimidate, with impactful differences between these choices.
With an open decision space supported by a few straightforward mechanics, Paladins of Glass is a great mid weight game aimed at mixed level tables that encourages teamwork and can be enjoyed by anyone.
